Welcome to Infinite.
Infinite is a human community of hackers and enthusiasts from around the world. We believe in the freedom of the technologies we use, and we hack every day to empower people to be independent, free, and open.
We actively create and adapt technologies to achieve a safer and healthier digital world. In short, we hack for good.
Humans have always adapted to their times, advancing through the ages by using sticks, then tools, then utilities, and finally machines. Today, technology in its broadest sense is omnipresent in our societies, our homes, our streets, and our industries. Unfortunately, too many bad intentions, harmful practices, and toxic consumption habits have turned what was meant to be a beneficial invention into a field shrouded in secrecy, driven by private and/or profit-oriented interests at the expense of users, their safety, and the potential of the technology. In the process, humanity has arguably lost its sense of life, becoming disconnected from the real world and diverting from our true nature, notably through the misuse of technology.
Our project aims to work towards healthier and better technology for all by offering innovative ideas that promote independence, freedom, and openness in what should be a true technological advancement. Our goal is to ensure that everyone can take advantage of this technology, rather than just private capital and interests. We also seek to help humans reclaim its rightful place, by encouraging a reconnection with the real world and our true nature.
Infinite is a non-profit organization, a community of hackers, creators, and humans united by a single ambition: to make technology free, healthy, ethical, secure, and inclusive. To achieve this, we build creative tools that combine innovation with freedom and ethics. We also develop ready-to-use projects and solutions that can be used as-is, while also serving as solid foundations for modularity, hacking, and customization, empowering everyone to explore their hacker side and start tinkering. Our goal is to make this simple and accessible, so anyone can create an infinite number of things! Through these two missions, we aim to address many human challenges: breaking harmful norms, resisting toxic control or overconsumption, and fostering human-centered innovation, letting us enjoy the benefits of technology without disconnecting from the real world or nature.
We believe it is essential and mandatory to give users full control over technology and allow them to access it without restrictions, deprivation, or surveillance. This is why we fight every day to eliminate all forms of user control by creating open technology. Furthermore, these technologies must offer the necessary transparency to reveal all the secrets of every machine.
We strongly oppose any practices that go against true productivity and the well-being of people, such as planned obsolescence, user control, forcing users to replace their devices, or turning the purchase of a device into a subscription with the aim of making them regularly renew a product or service.
As players in the tech field, it is equally important to recognize that not every aspect of life requires technological integration, especially where things worked well before. For technology to be truly beneficial, it should be reserved for areas that genuinely need it (such as accessibility, data, and essential services) rather than for toxic consumption habits where tech integration serves only as a sales pretext.
Organizations and companies should serve the users, not the other way around. Today, many practices are designed to trap users and make them pay more for increasingly less. We simply aim to reverse this order of priorities.
We believe in guiding society towards a more productive, independent, and hands-on approach to technology, encouraging everyone to repair, repurpose, or upgrade everyday devices.
Our services are becoming increasingly expensive while offering less in return. We are constantly purchasing more online services just to gain access to resources. If we stop using a service or if it shuts down or denies access to our content, we have no recourse. We aim to foster independence from these services by decentralizing them and allow users to host them at home or within their organization.
It is crucial to maintain control over our digital activities, the services and systems we use, and our data. We are committed to digital independence, enabling everyone to fully own and adapt their computing services and systems to meet their needs.
We aim to promote inclusion and maintain a human-centered approach in our creations and design. We fight against all forms of discrimination. From creation to usage, human rights and the dignity of individuals must be among our top priorities.
The people contributing to the Infinite project are, above all, passionate about tinkering, hacking of all kinds, repurposing software and hardware, repairing, crafting, creating new opportunities with existing materials, and much more! We aim to democratize this passion to a broader audience, increasing possibilities and, more importantly, bringing real benefits in terms of repairability, reproducibility, and overall scalability.
Create technical tools that enable everyone to build healthy technology, offering new possibilities both technically and ethically. These tools focus on the principles of modularity, openness, and transparency, allowing anyone to hack, modify, and improve without limits!
We use our own tools to reap the benefits ourselves and easily create technology that is useful, reliable, and aligned with these values. These solutions can cover data, services, systems, professional and personal computing, or other utilities. They are entirely hackable, modifiable, improvable, and repairable.
We want these projects to serve as foundations for makers, creators, and hackers ā giving them the freedom to modify, repurpose, or build exciting things from them. We believe itās far better to focus on how to open things up and make them adaptable for all, rather than restrict access for private interests. This ensures the longevity of technology, and above all, protects the freedom of those who wish to shape it.
Beyond our concrete and technical actions, it is important to maintain close engagement with everyone to share and evolve our ideas for the best outcomes. It is equally crucial to raise awareness among younger generations about best practices on the web and in technology. Generally, no one should feel excluded from this technological transition; it is important to reach out to everyone.
Open-source software and open hardware offer numerous benefits. Therefore, we should provide an environment and creations that are open, allowing everyone to create, modify, improve, or adapt anything and everything. We believe this infinitely enhances the practical potential of every object and system around us.
As part of independent technology, each person should be able to have 100% control over their computing and technology, being capable of adapting, changing, or modifying every part, whether hardware or software. Making this principle simple and accessible allows everyone to access technology that is straightforward yet incredibly modular and independent.
A fundamental step in cybersecurity is recognizing that vulnerability is inevitable. Although the idea of absolute security has philosophical appeal, it does not and will never exist. Instead of lamenting this fact, we should intelligently design solutions to reduce the attack surface, rather than merely applying basic security measures that do not address the nature or source of the risk.
It is important to stop normalizing practices that have become widespread, such as frequently renewing devices, which turns a simple technological acquisition into a true subscription with commitment (due to associated services). This traps the user in a vicious cycle that benefits the responsible company but is detrimental to the user.
We should pay special attention to designing things that are modular, customizable, and repairable, allowing everyone to adapt their needs or repair easily, without commercial practices that hinder this process.
Security is a core focus of our project. We aim to research, innovate and create based on advanced security principles that are clear and transparent, without making things unnecessarily complicated.
Establishing security through trust and transparency directly helps resolve vulnerabilities. Having a responsible attitude isn't about trying to achieve zero risk, which doesn't exist and never will, but about making each vulnerability transparent and making it clear how security is implemented.
Security through obscurity (not communicating methods, using closed source) is one of the worst things we can do when we talk about cybersecurity. While intuitive, it highlights that a technological application is not protected by design, but by force. A technological application can only be called safe and secure if, even with the most detailed instructions, a potential attacker could not take advantage of a flaw or other.
One of the keys to cybersecurity is simplicity. Why make things overly complex or advanced when our actual needs are minimal? Thatās why we focus on doing things in a simple and straightforward way, to ensure the best possible security. A security by design and by simplicity
Following strict rules, enabling the quality of a technological application is a disciplinary approach to technology, it allows for following common security conventions, and ensuring that everyone understands a security approach.
Following best practices is a foundation in designing safe and secure applications. This involves using simple, modern technologies, such as language memory-wise or decentralization technologies.
Cybersecurity involves not knowing and mastering everything, but doing everything to adapt, find solutions and work to improve the security of technological applications.
Everyone should have their place, especially in the tech industry, which includes video games, 3D, systems, apps, and more. Regardless of skin color, background, beliefs, religion, culture, gender, or ideas, everyone deserves to find their place and be treated with respect by all.
An organization committed to inclusivity must be careful not to impose dominant voices or perspectives. Its role is to make sure everyone can share their ideas, opinions, and point of view, and contribute equally to the conversation.
No to pinkwashing, no to greenwashing. Using these causes for profit is the fastest way to discredit them. We say no to the misuse of important causes for selfish or harmful purposes.
We must support and highlight the work and projects of all minority communities, and actively recognize and promote the value they bring.
In any human community, every voice should matter without judgment or unequal treatment. Everyone must have the chance to share their perspective, shape ideas, and influence the course of things. Every word deserves to be heard with fairness and considered with equal care.
Infinite isnāt just a group of hackers and creators. Itās a hole community of humans working together to rethink how we design, build, and share technology. The project is built on theses foundations:
We create tools and projects that are accessible, modifiable, and hackable, so that anyone can explore, tweak, and learn. We reject secrecy, closed systems, and abusive ownership.
We follow clear and simple practices based on transparency, strict rules, best practices, and ongoing reflection. Weāre not chasing āzero risk,ā but aiming for security by design thatās understandable, collective, and always evolving.
We donāt build technology for its own sake. We create tools and projects that respect people, the planet, and the natural world. We believe in repair, reuse, understanding and in asking the right questions. We stand firmly against overconsumption and all kinds of harmful practices.
Everyone should have a place, be heard, and be respected. No matter their background, gender, culture, or perspective. We reject the exploitation of any social causes and support minority communities. We finally aim to uplift every voice.
We want to promote a new way of thinking about technology. One that puts people, the environment, health, and ethics first. This means taking a strong stand on cybersecurity and safety, while staying deeply committed to innovation. Our goal is to center people and their surroundings in everything we do, to challenge harmful systems and the exclusion they create, and to push back against outdated norms that have become too common. We also believe in a more hands-on and creative approach of technology. A technology that values improvements, modifications repair, reuse. All of that with a deeper connection to nature and our environment. We want to think about the role technology really plays in our lives, and imagine better ways it can serve us all.
Infinite is committed to upholding these principles and working to add new ones in order to promote freedom, independence, and technology that is useful and beneficial for both people and our planet. We are dedicated to building this new paradigm in technology, computing, and engineering, centered around independence and transparency.Infinite is committed to upholding these principles and working to add new ones in order to promote freedom, independence, and technology that is useful and beneficial for both people and our planet.
